About Me and My Practice

"As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has or ever will have, something inside that is unique to all time. It's our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression."  Mister Rogers

This quote speaks to what has been a guiding force in my life: to recognize my own goodness, uniqueness and right to be, and offer that capacity to others. On my healing journeys, I’ve experienced many excellent modalities and truly gifted teachers. The therapy that speaks most deeply to me and my clients, and the one I’ve trained in since 2016, is Internal Family Systems developed by Richard Schwartz, PhD. I am also fortunate to have trained as a coach with Guthrie Sayen, PhD., whose inspiring program, Coaching with Spirit, is modeled on core principles of IFS.

I am a Certified Level 3 trained Internal Family Systems Practitioner. I’ve completed all training levels offered by the IFS Institute and have the client, workshop, and consultation hours required for certification. In addition to my IFS background, my education includes a master’s degree (MA) in English Literature from Columbia University and a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from Simmons University’s School of Social Work. Note that I am not a licensed clinical therapist. However, I can refer you to one if that would be beneficial.

Safety is central to all healing and growth and is essential in my practice and in our relationship. I deeply value and encourage your voice, questions, concerns, and feedback. You are totally in control of what and how much you share. I respect your privacy and will keep what you share as confidential unless you are at risk of harming yourself or another.

I meet with my clients virtually, finding it to be convenient for us both without reducing our connection or therapeutic effectiveness. I'm not contracted with insurance providers. My fee is $150 for a 50-minute session. Clients for whom this amount is challenging, see me quite effectively on a biweekly basis. My practice is open to everyone, and I consider myself very fortunate to work with people from diverse ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds.

Clients Write:

"I am truly thankful to _____for introducing me to you. Over the past 3-4 years I have watched myself love every part of me ... to embrace all moments of my adult life. Reflecting on the years have truly been a blessing to me and ...now me at *41 EFFECTIVELY EMBRACING ALL PARTS OF MY PAST AND LOVING WHO I AM!!  Thank you for being apart of my healing process. I truly love and appreciate you."

"Since our session I have felt a deep sense of wellbeing. Thoughts that would deeply disturb  me (e.g “Im not loved/welcomed by these people”) no longer rattle me as they used to. I now feel peaceful acceptance. I am, in this moment, anchored in compassion for myself and others."

“IFS is about offering those young parts of yourself presence, compassion, care, affirmation & rest. It’s about getting to know those parts of yourself that are longing to be seen & heard.”

“I have worked with Sherry for a number of years, and I trust her. She offers full acceptance, grace, humor, wisdom, and tenderness to track alongside you at your own pace.”

“IFS has been very helpful in relationships. It helps me know and understand what I’m feeling. It also helps me identify parts in others. Working with Sherry I’ve come to understand that my primary connection is with myself. The more I understand and feel compassion for what’s going on in me, the more space and time I have to give to others.”

“It’s hard to describe in words, but I do believe after yesterday’s session with the part of me that feels shame, a big burden of aloneness was lifted. I feel quite liberated today and happy.”

“Prior to working with Sherry I didn’t have the tools to engage with different parts of me and now I do.  It is so empowering because not only do I feel empowered, but my parts do too. I don’t need to wait for Sherry to have a beautiful and sacred exchange with my parts. We can do that anywhere and anytime."
